What Will My Grade Be After the Final?

The forward version of the final grade formula: course grade = current × (1 − weight) + exam score × weight. With an 88% going in, a final worth 25% and a score of 92%, you finish at 89.0% — a B+. Try your own numbers:

Working backwards instead

If the exam has not happened yet, the more useful question is usually the reverse one — "what do I need?" rather than "what will I get?". The final grade calculator answers that with the same two numbers, and the grade chart covers the common combinations in a table.

Frequently asked questions

The exam score I enter is above my current grade, but my course grade went down. Why?

It cannot — check the weight. Your course grade always lands between your current grade and your exam score, weighted toward whichever part counts more. If the result is outside that range, a number was typed into the wrong box.

Does this work for a midterm I already took?

Yes, with care: "grade before the exam" is your weighted grade on everything else in the course, and the result is your course grade counting the midterm at its weight. Remaining ungraded work will still move it later.

What if my score is curved?

Enter the curved score — the one that will appear in the grade book — not the raw percentage of questions right. Curves are applied by teachers in many different ways, so no calculator can guess yours.
